From 2003 Jariwala continues her interests in Rennaisance and Hindu iconography. The Chakra Series refers to the ancient Hindu Yogic philosophy, which states that there are seven points that run down the central column of the body. Each part of the body is represented by a colour from the rainbow, from the base chakra which is red to the crown chakra which is violet.
Chakra literally translated from Hindi means ‘wheel of spinning energy’. Some cultures believe that the human body has seven main Chakras which are located within the body, and are aligned vertically up and down the spinal column. Each Chakra has a colour and certain emotions and characteristics associated with it. These paintings are inspired by elements used in the Devi and Tree of Life paintings from Caroline’s earlier series of Chakra works, which are also on display in this exhibition.
