Charcoal on primed paper – 2001.
Like Caroline’s other drawings, Miracle, Transcendence and Benediction, this charcoal drawing is directly inspired by two paintings in the Barber Institute’s collection: Murillo’s The Marriage Feast at Cana and Botticelli’s The Madonna and Child with the Infant St John. The artist was interested in the captured moment and how that focuses upon the action of spirituality. She was also intrigued by the fleeting gesture and how this could have transcendent significance.
